Itinerary:
Concentration
on all skills required to make a glass mosaic work such as
a vase or backsplash art piece including cutting geometric
shaped tiles from sheets of glass, patterning, working on
various substrates (glass, wood, Hardiboard), gluing, filing
and grouting. Each student will complete a project of his
or her choice of size and scope that can be completed during
the workshop schedule. I suggest glass shapes should be no
taller than 12" and flat works around 24" x 24".
Beginners will learn how to cut glass tiles but may choose
to have instructor cut tiles for project.
Materials
Required:
All students:
Glasses
or safety glasses
Stained glass (may be purchased at Glass Works Stained Glass
Studio)
Substrate for mosaic project (glass vase, plywood, section
of Hardiboard)
Glue - Bond 527 or Weldbond suggested
Old kitchen knife
Grout (sanded recommended)
Plastic bucket for rinsing grout from sponge
Plastic tub for mixing grout
Paint stirrer to mix grout
Latex gloves
Grout sponge
Cotton cloth for final wiping of grout (old t-shirt works)
Intermediate
students:
Rotary
cutting mat - OLFA - Michaels Crafts
Glass scoring tool
Glass square (minimum 12")
Running pliers (for breaking strips)
Grozier pliers (for snipping tiles from strips)
Glass snappers (for breaking strips)
Rotary wheeled-cutter (cutting angles)
Nylon hand brush (for sweeping away chards)
